Council Roundup: Human Services Needs Update underway

At an extended session on Monday the City Council received a briefing on early efforts to collect community feedback for the 2017-18 Human Services Needs Update. The biennial report looks at the needs of Bellevue residents and explores how to leverage the community's resources most effectively. The information will ultimately guide the Human Services Commission's funding recommendations.

Initial outreach and data collection has started and will continue through the summer, using a variety of tools including community surveys, focus groups and interviews with community stakeholders.

The draft report will be reviewed this fall with expected adoption by the commission. Staff will later present the findings to councilmembers in early 2018.

Information on past updates is available at Human Services.

Proposed amendments to Land Use Code
Councilmembers were also briefed on proposed amendments to the Land Use Code to eliminate quasi-judicial appeals in Process I and Process III land use matters. The council initiated the code amendment process and provided that the council would retain its jurisdiction to conduct the public hearing on the proposed amendments.

This was the first study session regarding the proposed amendments. The council asked staff to further develop the amendments and perform required public outreach as the process moves forward. In the coming months, staff will present councilmembers with an update on the draft amendments.
