Council Roundup: Finalists for council vacancy announced

On Monday evening, the City Council announced eight finalists for the vacant Position 5 council seat. The candidates chosen were, in alphabetical order:

  • Grant Degginger
  • John deVadoss
  • Aaron Laing
  • Scott Lampe
  • Jared Nieuwenhuis
  • Ernie Simas
  • Stephanie Walter
  • Janice Zahn

The candidates, selected from among 43 city residents who applied for the seat, will be interviewed during public session at the Feb. 13 council meeting at City Hall. The seat became available when Vandana Slatter resigned after her appointment by the King County Council to represent the 48th Legislative District in the Washington State House of Representatives.

More details on the announcement and selection process can be found in an earlier news release.

Other agenda items postponed
Due to snowstorm impacts prompting an abbreviated meeting, councilmembers took action to move a public hearing on proposed Ordinance 6340 regarding the Medical Institution District to Feb. 21.

Additional agenda items including briefings on the Development Services customer outreach survey and a proposed minor adjustment to the boundary between Bellevue and Kirkland are being rescheduled to a future council date.
