FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, December 13, 2012

No I on this team

The Bellevue High School Wolverines have won a fifth straight state football championship, and the coach says a shortage of big egos was key.

"When you have a group of kids who are committed to each other and don't care about who gets credit ... and they're working together for something, that's pretty cool,"  Coach Butch Goncharoff said of a squad that has taken 10 Class 3A state titles out of the last 12 and is ranked No. 1 in the nation by ESPN.

The Wolverines hoist the trophy after crushing Eastside Catholic 35-3.

The football team is featured on this month's "Lake to Lake" news show, available on the city's YouTube channel, at Bellevue TV and on channel 21. A flash mob for fitness and long-awaited improvements to West Lake Sammamish Parkway are also part of the December episode.

"Lake to Lake" is created and produced by city staff with help from Bellevue College students. Lt. Troy Donlin, community liaison for the Fire Department, is host this month.

Other "Lake to Lake" segments this month include:

  • Adoption of a budget that doesn't include cuts for the first in a couple of years;
  • An interview with the leader of Youth Eastside Services; and
  • A quick peek at the skating and lights that mark Bellevue's "magic season."
