The City Council on Monday held the first of three public hearings on the 2013-2014 budget and the 2013-2017 capital budget. Also planned are two public forums in June to provide information about the budgets.
The public forums will take place:
- Tuesday, June 12, 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Crossroads Community Center, 16000 NE 10th St.
- Thursday, June 14, 7 to 8:30 p.m., at City Hall, 450 110th Ave. NE
Three speakers, including representatives from the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce and the Bellevue Downtown Association, addressed the council at the hearing on Monday. The next public hearings will take place on July 23 and Nov. 19.
For the second time the city is using an "outcomes" approach to build the budget, with city services and programs evaluated based on community priorities, or outcomes, rather than city departments.
The seven outcomes are safe community; improved mobility; healthy and sustainable environment; innovative, vibrant and caring community; quality neighborhoods; economic growth and competitiveness; and responsive government.
The Finance Department's budget page has more information on the budget process, including a sign-up for text or email alerts about budget news.
